35 Kashmiri students suspended from Mewar University

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has voiced "deep concern" over the suspension of 35 Kashmiri students from Mewar University in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan.

The students were protesting continuously for three days, demanding the university secure necessary approvals for its BSc Nursing course from the Rajasthan Nursing Council (RNC) and Indian Nursing Council. Nasir Khuehami, the national convener of the association, criticised the university’s decision, saying, “Instead of addressing their legitimate concerns and protecting their academic careers, the university opted to suspend the students. This harsh action is unacceptable and a direct attack on the students’ rights to raise their voices for justice.”

A university order issued by the Registrar on Saturday suspended the second-year B.Sc. (Nursing) students for “nuisance and deplorable acts.”

It also barred them from entering the university premises until further notice and instructed them to vacate their hostels.
