IATA flags concerns over significant rise in airport charges in India

Global airlines' grouping IATA on Wednesday raised concerns about a significant increase in airport charges in India, urging the country to implement regulations to control costs and allow more people to travel by air.

The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) approves tariffs for major airports in India, and some airport charges have increased in recent times. IATA Director General Willie Walsh said that India needs to be congratulated for its investment infrastructure, which will pay dividends but only if costs are controlled.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) represents around 330 airlines, including Indian carriers, which account for over 80% of global air traffic.

Walsh also mentioned that there are concerns about airport charges in a number of countries, including India.
