MP High Court bans editing, uploading of live-streamed court footage
The Madhya Pradesh High Court has banned the editing and uploading of trimmed footage from its live-streamed court proceedings on online platforms.
In a public interest litigation hearing on Monday, Chief Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Vivek Jain issued the immediate restriction, as shared by an advocate familiar with the case. The petitioner, social activist Dr Vijay Bajaj from Damoh, noted, “Under these (high court) rules, arbitrary use, sharing, translation or uploading of live streaming on any platform is prohibited. Despite this, economic benefits are being taken by editing and uploading live streaming clippings on many internet media platforms,” he added.
The court reiterated that its rules require prior permission before any livestream content can be uploaded on social media or television.
