Shami’s new injury setback ends hopes for Border-Gavaskar comeback
A recent injury setback has prevented Bengal selectors from naming Mohammed Shami in the upcoming Ranji Trophy matches, ending his chances of an international comeback in the Border-Gavaskar Test series against Australia.
Shami, who was left out of India’s squad for the five-Test series starting November 22 in Perth, had been expected to demonstrate his match fitness in Bengal’s fourth and fifth Ranji rounds against Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. The ‘Times of India’ reported that while Shami was recovering from a lingering ankle injury sustained during the ICC tournament last year, he recently developed a side strain.
This latest injury has delayed his return to competitive cricket, creating a challenge for the Indian team management, who were hoping to bolster their squad following a recent Test series loss at home to New Zealand.
