Australia’s Matthew Wade retires from international cricket

Australian wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday, confirming a shift to a coaching career.

Wade, who represented Australia across all three formats over 13 years and 225 matches, made his final appearance during the T20 World Cup in the West Indies in June. “I was fully aware my international days were most likely over at the end of the last T20 World Cup,” Wade shared in a Cricket Australia release. “Coaching has been on my radar over the last few years, and thankfully some great opportunities have come my way, for which I am very grateful and excited.”

One of Wade’s most memorable performances came during Australia’s maiden T20 World Cup win in 2021, where his unbeaten 41 helped secure a tense semi-final victory over Pakistan in Dubai.
