Robots deployed in search for seven trapped in Telangana tunnel collapse

Robots were deployed on Tuesday to aid in the search for seven individuals still trapped inside the partially collapsed SLBC tunnel since February 22.

A team from a Hyderabad-based robotics company, along with a robot, entered the tunnel in the morning, accompanied by 110 rescue personnel.

The Telangana government opted to use robots to minimize risks to rescuers, as water and slush inside the tunnel posed significant challenges. State Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy announced on March 8 that the government would spend ₹4 crore on the operation, leveraging robotic expertise.

He also noted that fragments of the massive Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) submerged in water, soil, and debris created additional hazards for the rescue team.
