GST council defers decisions on insurance premiums, food delivery rates
The GST Council, in its 55th meeting, deferred the decision to reduce GST rates on health and life insurance premiums, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary said on Saturday.
Chaudhary, who chairs the Group of Ministers (GoM) on rate rationalisation, stated that further discussions are needed, with another GoM meeting scheduled for January before presenting the proposal again. Chaudhary also noted that the GoM’s report suggesting GST rate changes for 148 items was not tabled during the ongoing meeting in Jaisalmer.
Additionally, sources revealed that the decision to lower GST rates for food delivery platforms like Swiggy and Zomato has also been postponed. The GST Council meeting is still in progress.
